Tomorrow is the 160th birth anniversary ofBiswakabi Rabindranath Tagore, who reshaped Bengali literature and music as well as arts of Indian subcontinent with contextual modernism.
On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Rabindranath, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages today, paying rich tributes to the poet.
The President, in his message, said, “Rabindranath Tagore is the main genius of Bengali consciousness and thinking, he was free to roam in almost all branches of Bangla literature… He is also known as one of our best composers, painters, sociologists and philosophers.”

Admission tests of public universities would be delayed due to the country s coronavirus situation.
Earlier, the majority of the public universities had decided to hold honours first-year admission test for 2020-21 academic session in June-July.
Bangladesh Bishwabidyalaya Parishad, an association of vice-chancellors of public universities, yesterday sat in a virtual meeting and discussed delaying of the entrance test.
Barishal University VC Prof Sadequl Arefin and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology VC Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed said holding of the test would be deferred. We [Bangladesh Bishwabidyalaya Parishad] will sit for another meeting after Eid to fix the admission [test] dates of public universities, said Prof Farid.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday instructed the education ministry to review whether educational institutions, which have been closed since March 17 last year due to the pandemic, could be reopened.
Surprisingly, hours after the instruction was given at a cabinet meeting, Education Minister Dipu Moni announced that in-person classes at universities would resume on May 24 after the Eid-ul-Fitr. Besides, the student dormitories at those universities will reopen on May 17, she said.

DHAKA, Feb 18, 2021 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the role of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the 1952 Language Movement remaining unpublished was a national mistake and state failure.
“Not publishing Bangabandhu’s role in the Language Movement was our national mistake and a state failure, and those who tried to undermine the Bangabandhu’s role did unjust,” he told a seminar at Jatiya Press Club in the capital.
The seminar titled ‘Bangabandhu in Language Movement’ was arranged commemorating the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
