(Eds: Adds Anshu Malik and Deepak Punia s results) Chiba (Japan), Aug 4 (PTI) Indian wrestlers Ravi Dahiya and Deepak Punia began their Olympics campaigns with technical superiority victories, reaching the men s freestyle 57kg and 86kg quarterfinals respectively with ease, here on Wednesday. The 19-year-old Anshu Malik though lost the women s 57kg opener to European champion Irina Kurachikina of Belarus 2-8.

Ravi Kumar became just the second Indian wrestler to make an Olympic final after staging a remarkable comeback against Kazakhstan s Nurislam Sanayev in the men s 57kg semifinal in Tokyo on Wednesday. He will face ROC s two-time World Champion Zaur Uguev in the final on Thursday.
Ravi had earlier begun his campaign with two technical superiority victories to reach the semifinals with ease. Second seed Deepak Punia lost to former world champion David Morris Taylor III in the semis of the men s 86kg category. He ll now contest the bronze medal bout on Thursday.

Tokyo, Aug 4 (IANS): Indian wrestlers Ravi Kumar Dahiya (57kg) and Deepak Punia (86kg) enjoyed fruitful outings at the Tokyo Olympic Games, securing semifinal berths in their respective weight categories, even as 19-year-old woman grappler Anshu Malik lost her opening 57kg-category bout to two-time world championships bronze medallist Iryna Kurachkina of Belarus 8-2 on her Olympic debut.
Anshu s hopes of a re-entry into the competition through the repechage route rest on Iryna s showing in the competition. If the Belarusian advances to the final, Anshu will get a second shot through the repechage route.

Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya (57kg) and Deepak Punia (86kg) enjoyed fruitful outings at the Tokyo Olympic Games as they secured semifinal berths in their respective weight categories at the Makuhari Messe on Wednesday.
On the opening day of the wrestling competition, Ravi Dahiya defeated Bulgaria s Georgi Vangelov 14-4 on technical superiority to reach the last four in the men s 57kg category, while compatriot Deepak Punia overcame China s Zushen Lin 6-3 on points to advance to the semifinals.
Dahiya will take on Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan in the last four, while Punia will be up against David Morris Taylor of the USA.

Wednesday began on a high note for the Indian contingent at the Tokyo Olympics as two of our Wrestlers Deepak Punia (86 KG) and Ravi Dahiya (57 KG) moved into the semi-finals in their respective weight categories after defeating their opponents. First, Deepak Punia took on Ekerekeme Agiomor of Nigeria and defeated him in the 86 Kg category to move into the quarter finals. Keeping up with his performance, he further defeated Zushen Lin of China in men s freestyle wrestling in 86 KG category to move into the semi-finals.
