Two farm workers were killed when a goods train collided with a bakkie early on Thursday at a railway crossing in the Free State.
The collision happened at 6.38am near Alpha farm in the Thaba Nchu district.
“The train driver alleges that he noticed a white bakkie on the level crossing and tried to warn the driver but the bakkie remained stationary until the two collided,” said police spokesperson Brig Motantsi Makhele.
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected traffic robbers terrorising motorists in different parts of the state.
In a statement issued yesterday, the spokesman for the state police command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, had rejiggered the command’s security strategies.
He said the Strike Team of the command arrested the suspects at Railway Crossing, Ikeja Along.
According to him, the suspects were attacking innocent people and dispossessing them of their belongings.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the image maker said that the police responded to distress calls from victims and arrested some of the suspects during the robbery, adding that the others were arrested at their hideouts.

The suspects, according to the police spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, were apprehended on May 1 for attacking and dispossessing innocent people of their belongings within the area.
He identified the suspects as Sadiq Masaki, Oladimeji Olatunbosun, Adam Hassan, Tunde Afolayan, Michael Ademola, Olamide Johnson, Abiodun Opeyemi, Oluseyi Agbaje, Daniel Ayomide and Adebayo Tobi,
“The operatives who responded to a distress call from one of the victims (name withheld), raced to the area and arrested some of the suspects in action while others were arrested at their hideouts around Ikeja Along,” Muyiwa said via a statement.

Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 11 suspected cultists and traffic robbers for terrorising and dispossessing members of the public of their valuables in the Ikeja area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Monday that the suspects were arrested following a distress call from a victim, adding that the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation.
He said, “The command has been arresting traffic robbers, who terrorise and dispossess innocent people of their belongings in the state, while many of them are being kept at bay due to the consistency and commitment of the command to tackling the menace and other forms of criminality in the state.

A 42-year-old, who allegedly receives the stolen goods from the suspects, was also arrested.
