WREXHAM: Campaign could be launched to encourage parents in Wrexham to ensure children attend school

A file picture of hildren in a classroom. (PA) A CAMPAIGN to encourage parents in Wrexham to ensure their children attend school could be launched in a bid to cut absence rates. Education watchdog Estyn previously raised concerns over attendance levels and pupils’ behaviour in the county borough’s secondary schools after publishing a damning report. Figures for the 2018/19 school year show levels of persistent absenteeism stood at 5.4 per cent, which was above the all-Wales average of 4.6 per cent. The collection of attendance data has since been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, improving attendance rates was flagged as one of the main recommendations by inspectors following their review in December 2019.

Posted: Tue 13th Apr 2021 Green light for 24/7 ASDA deliveries as 60 jobs created to help with surge of online ordering Plans to allow 24/7 deliveries to and from a Wrexham supermarket have been given the go ahead. Asda, located on Holt Road, has been taking over night deliveries since the start of the pandemic after changes were introduced by the government. The supermarket had been seeking permission to extend this provision on a temporary basis until the end of 2021. Speaking at last night’s meeting Alan Jones, head of Asda’s local government team, said the demand for online deliveries at the Wrexham store had “quadrupled” due to the change in shopping habits caused by the pandemic.

Daryl Stephenson, a work-based learning assessor at Coleg Cambria Deeside, is a tenor with the award-winning Fron Male Voice Choir. Based in the Dee Valley, they reached number one in both the Classical Artist and Classical Combined charts with their latest release, Voices of the Valley: Echoes Daryl, from Ruabon, also appeared in the YouTube video for first single Bring Him Home, with the choir performing virtually from their homes due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
