Fredericksburg, Virginia: America’s Most Historic Small City
George Washington would still recognize his old hometown

But little Fredericksburg, Virginia, is genuinely historic. No need for pretense in this town. It’s refreshingly real. When it comes to American history, nowhere else in small-town America will you find anything that compares.
Lots of other places may boast that “George Washington Slept Here,” but a T-shirt you find for sale here is inscribed with a message that pretty well sums up this town’s special edge: “George Washington Slept Many Places, But He Lived in Fredericksburg.”

Over the years in the United States, many veterans remember the holidays as difficult times when on active duty away from their families. This year, I decided to share a story I have been asked to share many times about one of our area’s famous veterans. This article is dedicated to all of our service members around the world who are away from home during the holidays serving their country with distinction. To all those away from home, thank you for your service to our country in the most difficult of circumstances.

âHow many observe Christâs birthday! How few, His precepts!â ~ Benjamin Franklin
I still have time, donât I? It just hasnât hit me yet, but itâs only the first week in December, yet Iâm growing impatient that the Christmas season hasnât moved into my mind, into my memories.
Christmas for many Americans â for many Europeans and basically for the Christian world â seems to have changed in the past few decades.
Itâs sure changed for me as I continue, each year, to grow away from those very first Christmas memories when I was a kid.

Since late spring, a group of Fredericksburg protesters have requested the city âdefund the police,â or redirect resources to crime prevention rather than law enforcement.
City Council has taken the opposite approach.
Members voted unanimously Tuesday night to amend the budget to provide additional resources to law enforcement and court security personnel.
The amendment provides all sworn law enforcement, communications and sheriff personnel a $3,500 increase in annual salary.
The starting pay for a new officer will go from $46,518 to $50,018.
City Manager Tim Baroody has also been directed to include a proposal in next yearâs recommended budget to increase the allowances for post-retirement health insurance benefits for public safety personnel.
