In case of abuse, Joe Biden bit the bullet on April 24 and acknowledged what no previous U.S. president had ever dared to boldly state in public: the mass murder of Christian Armenians in the Ottoman Empire about a century ago was nothing less than genocide. Much to Turkey’s chagrin, 30 countries, ranging from Canada and Germany to Argentina and Russia, had already recognized the killing of 1.5 million Armenians as genocide.

The Righteous of Rwanda and their Universal Value

The Righteous of Rwanda and their Universal Value An appeal for genocide prevention based on the memory of the Righteous Damas Mutenzintare Gisimba, the director of an orphanage who saved more than 400 people from the interahamwe militia Between April 6 and July 16, 1994, the Hutu criminal extremists systematically slaughtered a million citizens from the ethnic Tutsi minority within three months: their only fault was they belonged to a different ethnic group. To the indifference of the international community, there was one murder every ten seconds. In such context, many executed orders: they killed, raped, and tortured. The author’s family visiting the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan, Armenia “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor’s eye!” Matthew 7:5 It was December 2019 and I was driving home from a successful Christmas shopping run when I had to pull off the road and take a moment to collect myself. I had gotten an alert announcing that the US senate had, despite all odds and precedent, passed the Menendez Resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. Even though the House had passed a resolution six weeks earlier recognizing the systematic mass murder and ethnic cleansing of 1.5 million Armenians by Ottoman Turks as a genocide, almost nothing that passes in the House these days also passes in the Senate. I had not been holding my breath for the recognition to move forward in any way. Learning that the senate passed the resolution, by unanimous consent no less, took my breath away.
