Even as synagogues begin planning for services and programs that will approximate synagogue life before the pandemic, many recognize a need to memorialize the unprecedented disruption and loss suffered by congregations from COVID-19.
“I wanted something that would remind us of what we had gone through. This will be a story that we will need to tell,” said Rabbi Rabbi David Steinhardt, spiritual leader of B’nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton, Fla.
Clergy and congregants are finding a myriad of ways to remember the pandemic’s impact, from creating art to commissioning a Torah to writing special prayers.

Art in Action: Young Artists’ Vision of 2020
The Mandell Jewish Community Center, in collaboration with the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, will showcase “Art in Action: Young Artists’ Vision of 2020,” a collection of creative work that captured the thoughts and emotions of teens from across the Greater Hartford region during the Covid-19 crisis. COS hires interim rabbi
Rabbi Murray Ezring
The Congregation Ohev Shalom Rabbinic Search Committee offered the position of interim rabbi to Rabbi Murray Ezring, who accepted the position. He will begin officially on Aug. 1 and serve for one or two years.
During their search, the committee learned that there is a difference between an interim rabbi and a permanent one, and hiring an interim rabbi was the best solution for the congregation at this time.
