SALT LAKE CITY – Newly minted Utah head men s basketball coach Craig Smith begins to assemble his staff and adds a familiar face in DeMarlo Slocum, who he worked with as an assistant for three seasons at Colorado State.
We are thrilled to announce that DeMarlo [Slocum] is joining our Runnin Utes basketball staff! Smith said. DeMarlo understands the culture of excellence at the University of Utah having served as an assistant here for eight years. He understands the Pac-12 and understands winning in this great league. He can do it all. DeMarlo is a great leader, motivator, coach and recruiter. He is a big relationship person and will thrive in every facet for the Runnin Utes program. And, he ll do it with a ton of energy!

INDIANAPOLIS From Nov. 26 through the early evening of April 5, the 2020-21 Gonzaga Bulldogs felt like a Death Star laying waste to everything in their path.
They opened the season with an even-more-convincing-than-the-final-margin 102-90 victory over preseason No. 6 Kansas. The following morning, the Zags bludgeoned Auburn by 23 points. Game No. 3 against West Virginia got a little dicey when Jalen Suggs suffered a lower-leg injury and Drew Timme fouled out on an off night, but they still eked out the victory.
From there, it was 27 consecutive wins by double digits.

Phi Slama Jama. Those three words are enough to conjure up memories of the Cougars and their rare athletic talent. Clyde Drexler on the outside and Hakeem Olajuwon on the inside drew most of the attention, but it was lefty forward Michael Young that led the team in scoring. Houston only lost to Syracuse and Virginia early in the season before running off a 25-game win streak entering the Final Four. The Cougars high-flying performance against No. 1 Louisville in their national semifinal left no doubt what would happen to what seemed to be an overmatched North Carolina State team. Except the Wolfpack somehow stayed close and stunned the Cougars on a last-second dunk by Lorenzo Charles. You may have seen that highlight once or twice before.

Gonzaga and Baylor were among the top teams in men’s college basketball all season long and the two schools will get to battle it out in the national championship on Monday night.
It’s a matchup months in the making. Gonzaga and Baylor were supposed to do battle on Dec. 5 when the Bulldogs were No. 1 and the Bears were No. 2. But Baylor had some coronavirus issues at the start of the season forcing them to cancel some games and later postpone others. Those issues are far behind Baylor and they will finally get a chance to take down the No. 1 team in the nation.
