WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden announced on Thursday another diverse group of candidates for his second round of judicial nominations, a day after some in his first slate of picks went before a Senate committee.
The second round is three nominees: a woman who would be the first Asian American appointed as a federal judge to the Western District of Washington, a Latino who is currently the presiding judge of the Grant County Superior Court in Ephrata, Washington, and a woman who is a longtime labor and employment litigation attorney in New Jersey.
Thursday’s announcement brings the president’s total number of judicial nominees to 14, a pace the White House called historic for the first 100 days.

WASHINGTON (CN) President Joe Biden is once again getting praise from progressive justice groups after announcing another round of judges he hopes will fill district court vacancies.
The three nominees unveiled Thursday – the president’s 100th day in office – include labor and immigration attorneys and an alumni of a state poverty law program. The announcement comes a month after Biden put forth his first round of 11 judicial nominees.
WASHINGTON
President Biden on Thursday announced another diverse group of candidates for his second batch of judicial nominations, a day after some in his first slate appeared before a Senate committee.
The new batch consists of three nominees: a woman who would be the first Asian American appointed as a federal judge to the Western District of Washington; a Latino who is currently the presiding judge of the Grant County Superior Court in Ephrata, Wash.; and a woman who is a longtime labor and employment litigation attorney in New Jersey.
Democrats, who narrowly control the Senate for the first time in eight years, are eager to turn the page from the Trump administration, especially when it comes to judges. More than one-quarter of the federal judiciary is made up of former President Trump’s appointees. Most notably, Biden’s Republican predecessor named three conservative justices to the Supreme Court.

Updated Apr 29, 2021;
President Joe Biden has nominated a New Jersey woman for a federal judgeship in the District of New Jersey, his third nomination in recent months in an effort to quell the court’s “judicial emergency.”
Biden announced Thursday that he was nominating Christine P. O’Hearn, who is currently a partner at Brown & Connery the Westmont section of Haddon Township, to be a federal judge.
Democratic U.S. Sens. Robert Menendez and Cory Booker applauded the nomination.
“Christine O’Hearn is a highly successful and regarded trial attorney with the intellect, thoughtfulness and temperament needed to be a brilliant federal judge,” Menendez said in a statement.
