Published May 19, 2021 1:18pm Metro Manila must get 90% of COVID-19 vaccines and administer 200,000 doses daily to achieve herd immunity by Christmas this year and contain virus transmission nationwide, the OCTA Research group said Wednesday. Likewise, the team of experts said the remaining 10% of vaccines would be enough to vaccinate health workers and senior citizens nationwide. “We will still continue with the priority list but a geographic emphasis is going to be made,” Professor Ranjit Rye said at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum. Molecular biologist Fr. Nicanor Austriaco said a model he developed with chemical engineering graduate student Allan Almajose found that prioritizing Metro Manila in the vaccine rollout is the “fastest way” to bring down COVID-19 cases nationwide.

Malacañang on Tuesday called on the public to remain vigilant after the Department of Health (DOH) reported two cases of the more transmissible B.1.617 coronavirus variant first detected in India. “We call on our fellow Filipinos, we know that if we do not take care of our lives, we will not be able to go back to work. That is why the President’s call is for us to take care, wear a mask, wash hands frequently, observe social distancing and get a COVID-19 vaccine,” Palace spokesperson Harry Roque said.

The OCTA Research Group on Monday, May 10, urged the government to stay cautious when deciding on new quarantine rules by May 15 to sustain the gains of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified ECQ implementation in Metro Manila and nearby areas in the past few weeks.

Published May 10, 2021 4:01pm The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases has placed Cagayan, Apayao, and Benguet under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Malacañang said Monday. Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said under IATF Resolution 114-C issued on May 9, the three provinces will be under MECQ from May 10 to 23, 2021. “The risk-level classification of the aforementioned provinces shall be without prejudice to their reclassification as may be warranted and the declaration of localized Enhanced Community Quarantine in critical areas,” the IATF Resolution read.
