Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Blue Jays have been unable to play in Toronto for the past two seasons. While they’ll be moving to Buffalo starting in June, for the time being, they’re using their Spring Training home in Dunedin, Florida as their home park. This is a place that the Phillies are quite familiar with since their own Spring site is in the neighboring town of Clearwater, and they play multiple exhibition games there each year.
Rogers Centre in Toronto is the site of one of the darkest moments in Phillies history, so it’s probably beneficial for the Phillies to avoid playing there, and dredging up bad memories. And when they went to Buffalo in 2020, they not only got swept in a doubleheader - the bullpen unsurprisingly blew leads in both games - but one of their players got his testicle destroyed in the process. The Toronto Blue Jays will try to extend their winning streak to four games in the opener of a three-game series against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night in Dunedin, Fla.
The Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep of the host Atlanta Braves on Thursday with an 8-4 victory.
The Blue Jays have won all six games against the Braves this season. They again feasted on Atlanta s bullpen Thursday, with one run in the eighth and four in the ninth. If our pitching does the job, we re always going to have a chance, Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said. That s been true these past three games. If the pitching keeps us within reach, we have a chance.
