On Wednesday, The Northern Echo s Jim Scott spoke about an investigation which revealed people using online auction sites to sell paper Covid vaccine cards for profit. The cards, which are issued to those when they have their first dose, appeared on Ebay at the weekend where more than 135 had been sold over 48 hours. A probe found sellers willing to provide genuine batch numbers allegedly belonging to Pfizer/BioNTech and Oxford/AstraZeneca vials in exchange for cash.
Mr Dod said: What can the EU do? There is talk of slapping sanctions on the UK?
Mr Rizzuto replied: Well, I suppose it could end up in that sort of situation but then it would be pretty pointless.

This is because quite clearly if the UK unilaterally continues with this extension, of course, the UK is arguing circumstances but if it pushes for this six months, eight months or 10 months it will force the EU to do something at the border.

The former Brexit Party politician said the proposed grace period where hauliers would not be subject to customs rules for several months is not being enforced. Mr Kerr added if it were then the chaos surrounding imports and exports via the European Union could be easily remedied. Andrew Kerr claimed the failure to implement the grace period and the ensuing disruption have been used as a stick to keep other EU member states threatening to depart the bloc from leaving.
