Gardener s Notebook - Thoughts on composting

It’s hard to believe that we have not met in more than a year, but the Yorkton and District Horticultural Society is still not having meetings. By this time our meeting season would be just about . . .

Poetree and Friends fondly remembered

Poetree and Friends ran on CTV locally, and it was also carried on YTV and Nickelodeon.   The program won five CanPro gold awards for excellence in children’s programming.   Production of ‘Poetree and Friends’ ended in 1997.  Recently, the puppets from the CTV production  Poetree  and& Friends have been donated to the Yorkton Archives and are now on display at the Community pARTners Gallery, located in the Yorkton Public Library, until the end of June. The exhibition is a partnership between the Yorkton Archives, the City of Yorkton, Community Development, Parks and Recreation, the Yorkton Arts Council and the Yorkton Public Library.

Gardener s Notebook - When is itwarm enought to plant

The Yorkton and District Horticultural Society is still not having meetings, and by this time our meeting season would be just about over as we turn our attention to our gardens!  This is almost the time when we would be having our famous spring plant sale. But alas, since there is no easy and safe way to do so, we’ll have to hope for next year instead!  But please check out our website at www.yorktonhort.caand see interesting garden photos and news. I know we’re all eager to get out in the garden.  Spring clean-up is done for many gardeners; now we just sit with our basket of seeds at our feet and wait.  Which brings to mind the question: when is it warm enough to plant?  We’ve probably all heard that saying that we can plant  “when it is warm enough to walk barefoot in the garden”.  This is, of course, an old wives’ tale, and I would guess it is about someone who has aching feet from getting them chilled!

Provincial minister assures lab services move to Regina a temporary one

Seniors and Rural and Remote Health told Yorkton This Week in an interview Friday. “. What we’re doing here is temporary . The full intention is this is not a permanent situation.”   Hindley said both he, and Minister of Health Paul Merriman have been made keenly aware of local concerns over the change in services by local MLA Greg Ottenbreit, and other MLAs in the region.   Hindley said the shift in services to Regina has been a response to a temporary shortage of Medical Laboratory Technologists and Medical Laboratory Assistants that is impacting microbiology processing in Yorkton - a sub-segment of the overall Lab Services conducted at the Hospital.
