Skills upgrade strategy being finalised for Global Services Sector

Yoni Epstein, Chairman of the Global Services Skills Council, noted that it is critical to implement the strategy to further strengthen Jamaica’s value proposition for the GSS and to expand the island’s capability to attract more investments. The Global Services Sector Project (GSSP) is finalising its skills upgrade strategy that will empower Jamaicans with the technical and professional skills needed to function effectively in today’s Global Services Sector (GSS).  The GSS comprises Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO), Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO), and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). The two-year strategy, which was developed through consultations with companies and stakeholders in the outsourcing and tech industry, has outlined seven key skills and knowledge areas that must be acquired by Jamaicans who aim to excel in the GSS.

Jamaica is the next best hub for the global services sector

Country manager at Cable and Wireless, Stephen Price; has lauded the growth of the Global Services Sector (GSS) which continues to strive during the pandemic. Price believes the third annual Outsource2Jamaica conference and expo planned for June 11 and 12, will be a catalyst for the continued growth of the sector.  Speaking at the virtual launch of the event recently, Price pointed to the industry’s potential.  “Jamaica is an in-demand nearshore location which offers the right people and a robust network critical component and is seen as the next best hub for GSS,” he noted. Highlighting the hit the sector took last year from the pandemic, Price pointed to the opportunities for the island as the best nearshore location for the Caribbean and the English-speaking North American markets.

Outsource2Jamaica conference to take digital format from June 11-12

President of the GSAJ, Gloria Henry, says investors who have attended the previous conferences have since started businesses in Jamaica.  The third annual Outsource2Jamaica 2021 Conference and Expo is expected to connect international investors with local service providers within the Global Services Sector (GSS), which continues to make a significant contribution to Jamaica’s economic development. The event is being organised by the Global Services Association of Jamaica (GSAJ) and will be held on June 11 and 12, under the theme, “Back to the Future”. It is expected to bring together a diverse group of global experts, local entrepreneurs, government officials, sector leaders, buyers and service providers.
