Pedestrian suffers serious injuries after collision with car near Friar s Walk in Newport
The incident in Newport city centre is ongoing, with emergency services at the scene

Emergency services are responding to traffic collision in Newport city centre.
The incident took place near the Kingsway Centre and Friars Walk, between Usk Way and Granville Street, at around 6.30pm on Friday, December 18.
Gwent Police said Usk Way is currently closed southbound between the Millennium Bridge and Castle Bingo.
Police are currently at the scene diverting traffic.

Picture: Newport City Council PLANS for a new leisure centre and college campus will signal that Newport is still “a city on the rise” - despite the impact of the coronavirus pandemic - the leader of the council has said. Residents in Newport will be asked for their views on proposals to knock down the Newport Centre and replace it with a college campus, while also building a new leisure centre on a nearby site in the city centre. The council’s cabinet agreed to open a public consultation on the proposals, which will run until January 29, at a meeting yesterday.

Michelle Harrington, road safety manager at RoSPA, said: “Drivers aged 17 to 24 make up just seven per cent of UK licence holders, yet are involved in around one in four of all crashes that result in someone being killed or seriously injured. “This is largely due to inexperience, so it’s vital that young people’s learning experiences on the road are as extensive and involved as possible.”
