The European Commission and Europa Nostra have just announced the 2021 winners of the European Heritage Awards/Europa Nostra Awards, the EU prize for cultural heritage funded by the Creative Europe programme. This year, Europe s top honour in the heritage field goes to 24 exemplary achievements from 18 European countries. Among this year s winners is the wooden church in the Ursi village - Valcea County, a project awarded in the Conservation category, the European Commission said in a statement.

Dublin Civic Trust has won the European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award 2021 for its restoration of 18 Ormond Quay Upper, a 19th-century merchant building, with three storeys of residential above a shop. The award, which celebrates and promotes significant heritage achievements across Europe, was last won by Ireland in the conservation category in 2005, when the Office of Public Works took the award for its restoration of the Victorian Great Palm House complex in the National Botanic Gardens.

German minister: EU lost credibility in defence of rule of law

 In today’s news from the Capitals: LISBON. Germany’s Europe Minister Michael Roth said on Tuesday that the EU had not been firm enough in upholding the rule of law and had lost credibility with countries that do not respect it. “I want to be very honest. The EU has not been firm enough in defending and strengthening the rule of law. We have lost a lot of our credibility, especially in member states where the rule of law is under pressure, and this is quite a heavy burden for the Council”, the German minister said at an event in Coimbra.
