Fire on I-8 causes back-up as Yuma County revises wildfire protection plan

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - May is the start of wildfire season, but fires in our area have already sparked.
Yuma Fire Department put out several small brush fires Tuesday along the I-8 between 16th Street and Avenue 3E which caused some westbound traffic delay.
The county is working to update their Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) to expand a multi-agency effort to prevent wildfires.
It was created in 2010 but hasn t been updated since then.
House Fire in the 4300 block of West 17th Place Published: 12 April 2021 12 April 2021
Yuma, Arizona - On Friday, at about 10:10 PM, a house fire was reported in the 4300 block of West 17th Place. Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found heavy smoke and flames coming from 4348 West 17th Place. It took approximately 30-40 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the fire. One person was home at the time of the fire, they were treated for burn injuries and transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center.
The fire was determined to have started in the back patio area of the home and had extended into the interior of the home. The fire was able to be contained to the one home, which sustained significant damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but believed to have been accidental. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to provide assistance. YFD personnel remained on the scene throughout the night to monitor for any hot spots or flare ups.
Firefighters help man with finger stuck in gas tank

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Firefighters helped a man in Yuma after getting his finger stuck in the fuel port of a vehicle.
The Yuma Fire Department (YFD) said it received a call early Tuesday morning at a gas station in the 2000 block of East 24th Street.
Fire crews say the driver was having issues fueling the vehicle and used his middle finger to see if there was a blockage. The man s finger got stuck by the anti-siphon device, and he couldn t remove it from the fuel spout.

Car burst into flames on 4th Avenue
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A parked on Monday car caught on fire on the corner of 4th Avenue and 24th Street in Yuma.
An employee at The Barber s Lounge was cutting hair when he noticed his car was smoking.
Once he opened the door, it burst into flames.
The Yuma Fire Department (YFD) and the Yuma Police Department (YPD) arrived after getting a few calls.
