Letter: Legislators should support campaign finance reform

Letter: Legislators should support campaign finance reform Share Whether by perception or fact, a political system that appears to be unfair is corrosive. Corporate money in elections is corrosive. It corrodes citizens’ faith that their vote matters and that they matter. It corrodes individual faith in the power and dignity of self-determination: the power of “we, the people” at the ballot box and at the Legislature. Every citizen in Maine has the right to that same knowledge and trust in our electoral system. As a Unitarian Universalist, I believe my neighbors have the right to participate in our democracy knowing that the playing field is level and that their vote or their political contribution is equal to every other contribution. When I ask my neighbors and friends to participate in our democratic society, I want to invite them to a fair, clean, transparent and equal process.

37,007 Criminal Aliens Released Last Year So We Can Stand for Love - www independentsentinel com

37,007 Criminal Aliens Released Last Year So We Can Stand for Love August 26, 2014 According to Federal officials, a Supreme Court decision in 2001 requires the release of criminal aliens who can’t be deported.  A total of 169 killers and 37,007 criminal aliens were released into our communities last fiscal year and no one knows who they are or where they are. They are free to commit crimes again. ICE has released 169 criminal alien killers this past year who cannot be deported because their home countries won’t take them back. Almost every country refusing to take them back receives aid from the United States. We do not insist the aid be contingent on them taking these people back. Iran doesn’t have relations with the U.S. and we apparently have their killers also.
