Sarwar grieved over Dilip Kumar’s demise July 8, 2021 LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has expressed deep sense of grief and sorrow over the demise of Iconic Indian actor Dilip Kumar (Yusuf Khan) who passed away after a protracted illness in Mumbai (India) at the age of 98.Sarwar tweeted on Wednesday and said that Dilip Kumar was a great human being besides being a successful actor who ruled Indian film industry for decades, adding that his services in the world of art would be remembered forever. Reminiscing on Dilip Kumar’s visit to a Mosque in Glasgow (Scotland) in 1986, the Governor said the memory of that meeting with the legendary actor was still fresh in his mind.

Nicknamed The Tragedy King with brooding good looks, tousled hair, and a deep voice, he played the lead in some of the Indian film industry’s most commercially successful films of the period. But he missed out on international fame after famously turning down the chance to play Sherif Ali in David Lean´s 1962 classic Lawrence of Arabia . The part went to then little known Egyptian actor Omar Sharif.

An outstanding actor, a humble man, and a dignified personality,” the President tweeted. The President extended condolences to the family and fans of Dilip Kumar. “Condolences to the immediate family and his huge family of admirers. May his soul rest in peace,” he wrote. Prime Minister Imran Khan said Kumar’s generosity in raising big funds for launch of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital was unforgettable. “Saddened to learn of Dilip Kumar’s passing. I can never forget his generosity in giving his time to help raise funds for SKMCH when project launched,” the Prime Minister wrote in a tweet.
