For the competition, the students had to team up with a local news organization and come up with an idea to help them engage the community.
Murray, a graduate of the Honors Tutorial College(opens in a new window), was previously a freelance writer for The Athens News and interned at the Athens Messenger, so the students saw an opportunity to partner with the local newspaper.

Three Ohio University journalism graduate students have been named finalists in the Reynolds Journalism Institute’s 2020 Student Innovation Competition.

Jerry Sloan, 84, born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Dec. 10, 1936, passed away on Dec. 10, 2020, in Davidson, NC, according to The Plain Dealer. The OHIO alumnus was professor emeritus in strategic communication at Ohio University and established the school’s Jerry Sloan Visiting Professional award.
