An Oregon man who had been arrested in California earlier this month was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy after fighting with the officer last week, officials said.
The man, identified as Chad Curtis Loynachan, a 29-year-old Tigard resident, was arrested Feb. 5 on suspicion of drug possession, being a felon in possession of a loaded gun and possession of an improvised explosive device, according to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office.
On Friday, Loynachan was taken from the county jail in Yreka to Fairchild Medical Center for treatment, the sheriff’s office said. After he was cleared, “the inmate physically attacked the Correctional Deputy and attempted to disarm the deputy,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “During the fight, the inmate was shot by the deputy.”
