Top MSHS runner won it all in Cross Country – here s how he s preparing for track and field Siskiyou Daily News Runner Drew Hering did nothing but win during Mount Shasta High School s recent cross country season. The Bear junior will attempt to continue his winning ways during the track and field season, which kicked off over the weekend. Hering won all six races MSHS participated in. This includes placing first in the Shasta Cascade League Championships on March 19.   Hering s used to success: as a freshman runner and again his sophomore year, Hering made state in Division Five. He placed 74th as a freshman, and 59th as a sophomore. There was no state meet this season due to COVID-19.

Online dessert auction is for children of couple killed by falling tree

Siskiyou Daily News “Baking is an extension of love,” said Crumbs Bakery owner Melanie Duncan. To show her love and support for Jessica and Jake Woodruff – the Yreka couple killed by a redwood tree that fell on their car while driving on Highway 199 last month – Duncan created an online dessert auction to benefit the five children they left behind. Duncan was a co-worker of Jessica’s, and she graduated from Yreka High School in 2003 alongside Jake. So she was devastated to learn of their sudden and unexpected deaths on March 25. “I know the family well, and I love the family,” Duncan said. “I really wanted to do something to help.”

Fans lined the stands, the band played, and the cheerleaders cheered as the Yreka Miners football team faced Redding’s University Prep Panthers for a night of football.  But there were some major differences. It was not a fall evening in October – it was a spring night in April, and some fans wore masks, as did several people on the sidelines.  Obviously, the COVID-19 pandemic changed many things when it shut down the world in March of 2020.
