COVID-19 dominates news in 2020 | News, Sports, Jobs

iminor@dailypress.net ESCANABA Like the rest of the world, the coronavirus pandemic dominated the local news in 2020. As 2020 draws to a close, here’s a look at some of the major local news stories of the year. January 1 Escanaba residents Georgios Sitaras and Jami Hentz welcomed OSF St. Francis Hospital and Medical Group’s first baby of the new year at 7:32 a.m. Nicoletta Elizabeth Sitaras weighed 7 pounds, 1.9 ounces and was 19 inches long. She was the couple’s first baby together. 10 Delta County Sheriff’s Department now has two K-9 units after Deputy Chad Newton and K-9 Officer Sage completed training. Newton and Sage, a female Dutch shepherd, are a certified K-9 unit after weeks of being trained by K-9 Master Trainer Marty Munger of Superior K-9 Training, based in Marquette.

Nancy Douglass Trowbridge

 Nancy Douglass Trowbridge, 80, died at her home on December 14th, 2020 of natural causes. Nancy was born on January 28, 1940, in Florence, AL. She is survived by her son and daughter, Jay Douglass Trowbridge(Rachel), and Pamela Ann Trowbridge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald Alvin Douglass Jr. and Odie Mae Douglass. Meticulous by nature, she never left the house without her matching lipstick. She was a classy, beautiful lady and loved everyone. While gardening was her biggest joy and passion, she also loved interior decorating and particularly loved the Christmas season when she would fill every room with the holiday spirit. She especially loved her three Yorkshire Terriers, and each one held a special place in her heart.

Nancy Maude Rankin

Nancy Maude Rankin died November 21, 2020 in Johnson City, TN at the age of 92. A longtime resident of New Orleans, Louisiana she moved to Cornerstone Village in 2008. Recently, Caris Hospice provided her with warm and comforting care. Proud of her English heritage, she returned to Great Britain many times, once celebrating Christmas in London. Fond of Yorkshire Terriers, she adored, spoiled and enjoyed Lady, Di, Meg, Princess, and most recently Dolly Marie. Born in Birmingham, Al, her nursing career began with graduation from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, Birmingham AL, continued at University of Alabama, Duke University, Marillac College, St Louis MO, and followed with a Master of Science in Nursing from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Her professional life spanned years in various administrative and service positions until her faculty appointment at the Louisiana State University Medical Center School of Nursing in New Orleans.
