Bosch subsidiary is investing £1.6m in expanding in York. HIGH skilled jobs are being created in York with the £1.6m expansion of a centre supporting the development of smart transport technology. The Department for International Trade has announced that ETAS, a global solutions provider for the automotive industry, will be expanding in York. The move will create 11 new high-skilled jobs in the self-drive vehicle industry, with future potential to increase this to more than 40 positions. In September 2019, ETAS Ltd, a Bosch subsidiary, agreed a 15-year lease on one of York s largest available office buildings, Alexander House, in Hospital Fields Road, with office accommodation over three floors.

The Campus@Northallerton (C@N) project has been developed following a partnership between Hambleton District Council, the University of Sunderland and York College. C@N will be based at Treadmills – the former Northallerton Prison site which is being transformed into a retail, business and leisure complex.   Officials say that currently students living in Hambleton have to travel out of the district to access further and higher education and many don’t return.

£1m Aspire2Lead project launches to support women at work

A £1m project has been created to help women succeed in the workplace in York and North Yorkshire. Aspire2lead is being launched to coincide with International Women s Day today, Monday, and is a new programme designed to support existing and emerging female talent. The project aims to help 80 small and medium-sized enterprises and more than 1,000 individuals in employment or self-employment. It will offer support such as leadership and entrepreneurial training, return-to-work advice, careers guidance, networking and opportunities for successful businesswomen to guide others. A key focus will be its work with young women to enable them to aim higher in their career aspirations, with more experienced women championing and encouraging them onto boards, governing bodies and into senior roles.

Anglo American seeks 10 apprentices for North Yorkshire mine

A giant mine project in North Yorkshire is looking to recruit 10 apprentices Anglo American, the owner of the Woodsmith Project on the coast, has announced the launch of its 2021 apprenticeship programme during this year s National Apprenticeship week. The company wants to take on 10 engineering apprentices to add to the 14 already on its team, part of a pledge to hire 50 apprentices in the coming years for its state-of-the-art mine and transport infrastructure currently under construction near Whitby and on Teesside. The four-year apprenticeship to train Advanced Engineering Technicians will be run in partnership with TTE, part of Middlesbrough College. It will focus on developing a sound knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and instrumentation engineering skills needed to maintain the mining equipment and infrastructure when the mine enters production later in the decade.
