North Country lawmakers ask if Canadian truckers can get vaccinated in NY

Photo: Zach Hirsch May 15, 2021 State Senators Patty Ritchie and Assemblyman Mark Walczyk want Canadian truckers to be allowed to be vaccinated in New York State. The North Country lawmakers made a formal request to New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker after it was announced that the residency requirement for vaccine sites in the state will be lifted. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that tourists will be allowed to be vaccinated while visiting New York. In their letter, Ritchie and Walczyk asked if the expanded eligibility includes truckers and said that if it didn t, it soon should be allowed to be vaccinated in New York.

Governor Cuomo Announces $94 Million for Clean Water Systems and Local Drinking Water Infrastructure Projects Statewide

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors has approved $94 million in grants, interest-free loans, and low-cost loans to support vital drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects across New York State. The FY 2022 Enacted Budget adds a $500 million appropriation to support clean water, raising the State s total investment to $4 billion and continuing to fulfill the State s $5 billion clean water commitment. Clean water is essential to not only the public health but also present and future prosperity,   Governor Cuomo said.   The State of New York will continue to commit our efforts and resources to these water treatment projects for the long-term benefits of our families, communities and future generations.

State warns New Yorkers of heatstroke risk

ALBANY, N.Y. — Ahead of National Heatstroke Prevention Day, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC), the New York State Department of Health, and the Office of Children and Family Services are urging parents and caregivers to make sure they do not leave children, vulnerable adults or pets alone in a hot car. Even a short time left in a car can be dangerous as temperatures inside, even with windows left partly open, can quickly escalate. “With everything we juggle in a day, especially parents, it is easy to get distracted and forget about a child sleeping or sitting quietly in the backseat,” Mark J.F. Schroeder, DMV Commissioner and GTSC Chair said.
