After a year of change at York Hospital, new CEO gets to work

A new president and CEO starts work Monday at York Hospital, filling a void that began the same time as another challenge for the 79-bed acute health care facility the onset of COVID-19. Dr. Patrick Taylor succeeds Jud Knox, who ended his 38-year career at the hospital March 13, 2020. Maine had recorded its first case of COVID-19 the previous day.  Image Dr. Patrick Taylor is the new president and CEO of York Hospital. The hospital didn’t disclose the reason for his departure, and at the time a spokeswoman said publicly that it was the result of a “mutually agreed upon decision.”

Dog dies, woman escapes as Kittery home destroyed by fire

KITTERY, Maine Sunlight illuminated the smoldering ruins of a home at 7 Old Cutts Road Tuesday morning, after it was destroyed in a two-alarm fire the night before. The sole occupant of the house, Jane George, escaped without injuries, though her two dogs did not make it out of the home with her as responding crews arrived shortly after 7 p.m. Monday. Tuesday morning, after extinguishing a small remnant of the fire, Kittery Fire Department Chief David O’Brien said that the remains of one of the animals had been located in the ruins. The whereabouts of the other, he said, was not immediately known.

KITTERY, Maine  Firefighters from multiple communities responded to a home fire Monday night on 7 Old Cutts Road in frigid conditions. Kittery Fire Department Chief David O Brien said the only person in the home escaped without injuries, though her two dogs did not make it out of the house with her, according to the chief. The chief said his crews received a call for a two-alarm structure fire at 7:10 p.m. and were on scene six minutes later. At 9:15 p.m., O Brien said responding authorities were checking the burned home for the pets, fearing the worst. Looking for animals Literally, we’re in the process of looking for the animals now, O Brien said.
