KITTERY, Maine Sunlight illuminated the smoldering ruins of a home at 7 Old Cutts Road Tuesday morning, after it was destroyed in a two-alarm fire the night before.
The sole occupant of the house, Jane George, escaped without injuries, though her two dogs did not make it out of the home with her as responding crews arrived shortly after 7 p.m. Monday.
Tuesday morning, after extinguishing a small remnant of the fire, Kittery Fire Department Chief David O’Brien said that the remains of one of the animals had been located in the ruins. The whereabouts of the other, he said, was not immediately known.

Kittery Fire Department Chief David O Brien said the only person in the home escaped without injuries, though her two dogs did not make it out of the house with her, according to the chief.
The chief said his crews received a call for a two-alarm structure fire at 7:10 p.m. and were on scene six minutes later.
At 9:15 p.m., O Brien said responding authorities were checking the burned home for the pets, fearing the worst.
