A COLLECTION of portraits celebrating our NHS heroes is to go on display at a new venue as Pocklington Arts Centre (PAC) takes its outdoor exhibitions on tour. Following a popular exhibition at PAC the 24 portraits of NHS workers, by York artist Karen Winship, will move to the Hull Waterside & Marina where they can be viewed from Monday (May 17) until June 20. Artist Karen Winship said: “I’ve had a great response to the portraits so far, so it is incredible that Pocklington Arts Centre is now taking the exhibition on tour into the wider community. “I’m really looking forward to seeing my portraits lining the railings along Hull Marina, which is a landmark in itself, and I hope the public enjoy them too.”
St Leonard s Place, approaching the junction with Bootham and Gillygate. Ccouncil transport bosses have recommended against removing a lane of traffic
York Civic Trust has urged council bosses to defer a decision on reorganising a notorious city centre road junction. City transport bosses last week recommended against removing a lane of traffic from St Leonard’s Place as it approaches the Bootham/ Gillygate junction and creating an extra pedestrian crossing. Instead, they said the council should go ahead with a simpler scheme, which would see traffic lights at the junction upgraded and crossings widened. The two proposals were the subject of a major consultation. The council received more than 1,200 responses, of which almost half were in favour of the simpler scheme, while a third supported the more expensive scheme which would involve removing a lane of traffic.
