SELFIES are not a new concept. Painters through the ages often did self-portraits and some went further, showing themselves at work.
Take this (sort of) medieval selfie of a 15th century Netherlandish artist (pictured right). Its title: St Luke Drawing the Virgin and Child.
It is attributed to the workshop of Dieric Bouts the Elder (c1400-1475), in other words, Bouts’ apprentices.
A SIGN of Hope has been placed in York Museum Gardens as part of a campaign to bring small moments of positivity to visitors this winter lockdown. The sign will display humorous, beautiful or positive comments, thoughts and quotes to help brighten the days of visitors, with the hope that people will send their own suggestions to the York Museums Trust through social media. People on their daily walk or other form of exercise are also invited to help create a display of brightly coloured pebbles in the Storytelling Area of the gardens by painting them at home and dropping them off.

The Tides Within Us - the Science Behind the Experience
Marshmallow Laser Feast collaborates with Fraunhofer MEVIS to create its latest immersive artwork, The Tides Within Us. London, United Kingdom, December 15, 2020 (PR.com) The Tides Within Us is an ongoing exploration into the world beyond the limits of our senses. The work investigates the flow of oxygen through the cardiovascular system, painting a picture of a human body as a fluid event, more like a whirlpool than a static object. This flow questions the boundary of where this living body begins and where it ends. The Tides Within Us can be experienced, as part of the Human Nature Exhibition, at York Art Gallery until the 9th May 2021
