Israel unveils new Oron intel aircraft

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) announced the arrival of its new Oron intelligence-gathering aircraft on 4 April after it landed at Nevatim Air Base.

The Oron is a Gulfstream G550 business jet that will have its mission systems installed over the next two years, the IAF said. This process will be led by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense’s Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D), the IAF, the Intelligence Directorate, and the Israeli Navy.

Apr 5 (IANS): The Israeli Defence Ministry said the country s Air Force has received on a new intelligence aircraft that will provide the military with unprecedented reconnaissance capabilities.
The so-called Oron airplane landed on Sunday in the Nevatim airbase after more than nine years of developments by the Defence Ministry, Air Force, Intelligence Directorate, Navy, and the Israel Aerospace Industries, Xinhua news agency quoted an official statement as saying.
The Oron is based on the Gulfstream G550, a business jet manufactured by the US-based General Dynamics company.
It is equipped with an advanced radar system and data processing algorithms based on advanced data science and artificial intelligence capabilities.

The Israel Defense Forces received the first of a series of new spy aircraft, dubbed the Oron, on Sunday that it said would improve its ability to gather intelligence and identify targets for attack in Iran, Iraq, Yemen and other far-flung areas in the Middle East.
“The IDF and the air force already have a variety of intelligence collection capabilities, but the ‘Oron’ strengthens our superiority and our ability to operate in the second and third tiers and to move between fronts rapidly and over a long period of time,” said Israeli Air Force chief Amikam Norkin.
