A female police officer was the latest to be tested positive for the virus and was already isolated, said Police Col. Joselino Ligan, chief of the CPPO. She is the first COVID-19 case in CCPO since the police headquarters became COVID-19 free last Aug. 26. Before the CCPO became COVID-19-free, 113 police officers were infected with the virus with two succumbing to the disease. Ligan said the patient was one of the 200 police officers who were deployed at the Pilgrim Center of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Palma: Fiesta Señor 2021 a moment of thanksgiving

SunStar Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma. (File photo) + January 18, 2021 IN THE past, the pontifical mass for the feast day of the Sto. Niño every third Sunday of January was celebrated at the Pilgrim Center of the Basilica del Sto. Niño and attended by hundreds of devotees. On Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic changed this familiar setting. The pontifical 6 a.m. mass celebrated by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma took place inside the Basilica. Only a few people were in attendance, including this year’s hermano and hermana mayores and Augustinian priests. Palma, in his homily, appreciated the “ambiance” inside the Basilica in the presence of the original image of the Sto. Niño in the context of the pandemic.
