A semi went for a wild ride and a bad spill on Highway 46 about four miles west of Irene Wednesday, but fortunately, no one was injured. According to reports, the semi was eastbound on Highway 46 near the intersection with 446th Ave. when a westbound pickup pulling a fifth-wheel camper lost a front tire at 1:38 p.m. The driver of the semi tried to avoid the tire, which clipped the truck and possibly pushed the steering axle back. The truck veered into a steep southern embankment, popped up and tipped on its side. Eyewitnesses said the truck was briefly airborne during the incident. The trailer, out of Wisconsin, was carrying cheese and butter. Responding to the scene were Yankton County ambulance crews, the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office, Yankton and Irene fire crews, the South Dakota Department of Transportation and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
