Foreign Minister Marise Payne’s declaration they they are “inconsistent with Australia’s foreign policy or adverse to our foreign relations” has soured any hope of a gentle rapprochement with our largest trading partner and a healing of the political rift. Her assertion that China would not retaliate is naive at best.
