FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) Each third Monday of January, Americans celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior, a civil rights icon who inspired millions and shifted the trajectory of American history.
This year s annual commemoration ceremony in Fresno went virtual to help stop the spread of coronavirus, but the tradition of honoring his legacy continues.
Community leaders shared speeches, songs, and presented awards to Yolanda Randles, Dr. Rais Vohra, and Congressman Jim Costa for exemplifying Dr. King s spirit of service.
This year s event also takes on a deeper meaning after a national outcry against racism and police brutality.
ABC7 presents the 2021 Kingdom Day Celebration. This year s theme is Healing America.
This year s parade has been canceled due to COVID-19, so we will highlight the sights and sounds of Kingdom Day Parades past.
Local newsmakers, former grand marshals and celebrities will talk about Dr. King and share what his dream has meant to them.

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. â A variety of virtual presentations beginning Monday, Jan. 18 through Wednesday, Jan. 20 will comprise Ferris State Universityâs 35th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration the institution reports.
Though Martin Luther King Jr. will be honored, some events such as the Freedom March will be set aside in the interest of COVID-19 measures. On Monday Jan. 18, at 5 p.m. a Zoom presentation by Steve Perry will be incorporated into the celebration.
âHe reached out to us to serve as a presenter for this holiday, or some other cultural heritage event,â Office of Multicultural Student Services Assistant Director Darnell Lewis said. âWe are looking forward to his talk, âLessons We May Glean From MLK Jr., During the COVID-19 Pandemic,â believing that this featured presentation will have a significant impact on all of
