Northern Manitoba active COVID-19 cases drop below 200, south sees continuing high case trend

The NHR now has 190 active cases of COVID-19, by far the lowest of any of Manitoba s five health regions - the second-lowest health region, the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority, now has 265 active cases as of May 14. The NHR s 190 active cases is the lowest number of active cases seen in northern Manitoba since November 2020, when the NHR cleared 200 active cases in the midst of the second wave of COVID-19. Out of those northern cases, only four districts within the NHR have double-digit numbers of COVID-19 cases. One of those is the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon district, which has 10 active COVID-19 cases, including two new cases reported Friday. COVID-19 cases soar in southern Manitoba, northern case numbers see drop

The Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon district is sitting at eight active cases of COVID-19 as of May 11, reporting two new cases Tuesday. Other districts that reported new cases include the Bunibonibee/Oxford House/Manto Sipi/Gods River/Gods Lake, Cross Lake/Pimicikamak, Island Lake and The Pas/OCN/Kelsey districts. A total of 13 people from the north are hospitalized due to COVID-19 as of May 11, including one person now in intensive care. There are now 275 active cases of COVID-19 in the NHR. No new outbreaks or possible community exposures to COVID-19 were announced in the NHR May 11.

Under the new health orders, gyms and fitness centres will be closed, as well as casinos and VLTs. Outdoor gatherings on public property are limited to five people including household members. No gatherings of any size, whether they re outdoor or indoor, are allowed on private property under the new restrictions. Restaurants, bars, patios, food courts and similar areas will be unable to have in-person dining, but can provide take-out and delivery. Museums, galleries, libraries, personal services like hairstylists and nail salons, community, cultural and religious gatherings and indoor sports and recreation have all been shut down for three weeks under the new orders.
