At
Sunset, most of us like to kick-start our mornings with a jolt of java or tea. But we all face the bleary morning a little differently. Itâs Best of the West, home barista-style. Sunset Staff – April 6, 2021

When you talk about morning coffee rituals with a married person, youâll likely get an answer thatâs loaded with insight into their relationship. Recently, my husband brought home a plastic Aeropress and to say I wasnât happy about it would be an understatement. It illustrates the push and pull of form and function in our household perfectly. He wanted it because of the 13,000+ five-star reviews that proclaim it makes an amazing cup of coffee with zero waste. I didnât want it because itâs hideous, and a one-cup-at-a-time coff

My intentions to live a plastic-light life run into serious problems in the kitchen. Over the last year, since bulk bins in California have been off limits and grocery store runs feel like mad dashes through minefields, I have (sadly) let my usual habits of carefully considering more sustainable options slide a little. One place where Iâve been able to pick up the slack is with cleaning productsânot just using glass cleaner and counter spray from concentrateâbut with the t

Clean beauty is so easy and attainable that you can even buy it at the grocery store. Magdalena O Neal – March 12, 2021 | Updated March 18, 2021
I know I canât be the only one who goes into Whole Foods for milk, butter, and bread and comes out with not only my pantry essentials, but a face mask, bath bomb, and new body lotion. Iâve been a longtime fan of getting my beauty and skincare products from the grocery store, whether it be Erewhon, Lassens, or Whole Foods. I trust them to give me the best produce, and they deliver every time; so when it comes to maintaining my clean beauty routine, they serve me products just as good as my cherry tomatoes.Â

When I was growing up, my mother was always into cleanses and maintaining our health through what we ate at home. When I got caught drinking at a party in high school, I was greeted the next morning not only with a hangover but also a cayenne ginger shot and some kind of liver cleansing soupâand a two-week grounding. Through the adventure of healthy eating came the tip to âshop the outside aisles of the store.â The outer aisles are known for housing fresher foods, including produce, meat, and dairy, the building blocks of a healthy homemade meal. Mayo Clinic goes into it a little more about what the center aisles are packed with that you donât want as opposed to the outer ones.Â

International Womenâs Day was March 8, and that got us thinking about the brilliant women of the West who deserve more than one day a year to be celebrated. This is Best of the West, International Womenâs Day edition. Sunset Staff – March 9, 2021

Rancher Elizabeth Poett, who raises organic, grass-fed beef on her familyâs 180-year-old historical land grant property in Santa Barbara, is as #womancrushwednesday as it gets. The young mother works her familyâs 40,000-acre property and sells her beef at local markets and through her website. Make no mistake: Itâs good. But my favorite product from her property is the Rancho San Julian honey produced from hives on the land. The bees feast on coastal flowers and plants, including black and purple sage, mustard, fillerie, willow
