Evertiq - Revenue per wafer climbs as demand surges

Revenue per wafer climbs as demand surges The success and proliferation of integrated circuits has largely hinged on the ability of IC manufacturers to continue offering more performance and functionality for the money. But despite high development costs, smaller nodes bring greater revenue per wafer. Driving down the cost of ICs (on a per-function or per-performance basis) is inescapably tied to a growing arsenal of technologies and wafer-fab manufacturing disciplines as mainstream CMOS processes reach their theoretical, practical, and economic limits. Data presented in IC Insights’ 2021 edition of The McClean Report notes that many fabless IC companies are clamoring to have their leading-edge devices, including high-performance microprocessors, low-power application processors, and other advanced logic devices, fabricated using 7nm and 5nm process nodes. Some of the current iterations from logic and foundry suppliers are shown in the image below.

DRAM, NAND flash to be 2 fastest growing chips this year

Global DRAM, NAND Flash Market As of the third quarter of 2020, Samsung dominated the global DRAM market with a 41.3 per cent share, with SK Hynix coming in second with a 28.2 per cent share, according to market researcher TrendForce. In the NAND flash market, Samsung held a 33.1 per cent share in the third quarter, while SK Hynix had an 11.4 per cent share. IC Insights outlook is in line with the two companies 2021 forecast of their memory business announced earlier this week. Smasung Memory Business Samsung said its memory business, specifically the DRAM market, is expected to see a recovery during the first half of the year thanks to strong demand from mobile and server applications, although geopolitical and economic uncertainties remain.

DRAM, NAND flash to be 2 fastest growing chips this year: report

Courtesy of Samsung Electronics DRAM and NAND flash memory semiconductors are expected to be the two chip products that outshine this year, a report showed Saturday, boding well for South Korean chipmakers that dominate the world market. Sales growth for the two are projected to be 18 percent and 17 percent, respectively, making them the sharpest-growing chips among the 33 integrated circuit (IC) products available in 2021, according to the McClean Report released by market tracker IC Insights. DRAM, or dynamic random-access memory, is a volatile semiconductor memory that retains data as long as power is supplied. It is commonly used in personal computers, workstations and servers.
