48 cadets graduating from SCYCA Wednesday morning

ABC Columbia May 25, 2021 12:41 PM EDT COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The South Carolina Youth ChalleNGe Academy will have a graduation ceremony for its 46th class Thursday morning. It starts at 10 a.m. at the McCrady Training Center on Leesburg Road. 48 cadets will graduate from the youth challenge program which leads, trains and mentors at-risk youth ages 16-18 to help them become productive and successful citizens. The event is not open to the public.

18 COLUMBIA, S.C. The South Carolina National Guard prepares its Basic Leader Course (BLC) at the 218th Regional Training Institute (RTI) at McCrady Training Center in Eastover, South Carolina, to transition from virtual classes back to residential courses in the upcoming fiscal year. “We are planning for a phased approach to returning [back] to resident because it has been a year since we conducted a resident class,” states U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Gabriel Brown, 218th RTI, 3rd Battalion Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Academy commandant. In June 2020, the 218th RTI developed a virtual instructional platform to safely continue the mission of training Soldiers to become NCOs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

19 U.S. Army Sgt. Korey Bromery, a resident of Beaufort, South Carolina, was recognized as the 2021 South Carolina National Guard Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year during the Best Warrior Competition ceremony at McCrady Training Center in Eastover, South Carolina, March 5, 2021. The Best Warrior Competition is an annual five-day event designed to test Soldiers’ mental and physical stamina. U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers from South Carolina National Guard units across the state compete in the mental and physical tasks to be selected as the state-level Best Warrior Non-Commissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year. The state-level winners go on to compete in the regional-level Best Warrior Competition. Events include, but are not limited to, weapons qualification, land navigation, medical lanes, a board, and a 12-mile ruck march.
