The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne announced Thursday through a Facebook post that they have partnered with the Saint Regis Tribal Police to reward upstanding youth in the community.

âThis program is based on the simple philosophy that recognizing and enforcing good behavior will inspire and motivate better behavior,â said the MCA in the post.
Police who witness youths doing a variety of things, including being positive, kind, helping others or sharing, will âticketâ them and give them a free coin to local ice cream shop Sweet Treats.

The Kana:takon District Chief was serving his second term on the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne when he passed away at the age of 57.

“Chief Lazore wore his heart on his sleeve and his love and respect for the people of Akwesasne was widely known and felt,” said the MCA in a June 14 press release.
Members of the council, including Grand Chief Abram Benedict, and Kana:takon chiefs Tim Thompson and Julie Phillips-Jacobs attended the tree planting ceremony alongside Lazore’s family and community members.
