Linda Kiger Smith, who led a grassroots volunteer organization that transformed the decaying Community Theatre in Morristown into a vibrant, nationally recognized performing arts venue, died Friday. She was 72.
A former resident of the historic district of Morristown, she later founded and continued to produce the annual Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival with her business partner and husband, Don Jay Smith. The free outdoor concert typically draws thousands of visitors each year to Morristown, where the economic revival she helped to ignite continues to this day.
A native of Ohio who worked in the recording industry and designed album covers for popular recording artists, she married Don in 1980.
