Bret Slater makes paintings that beg to rest in the palm of your hand. While they don’t assume any wholly recognizable forms, they feature visual elements that resemble buttons, knobs and wires that call to mind everyday devices.
In the last couple of years, Slater has experimented with working larger, producing more abstract and diffused paintings that channel predecessors like famed abstract expressionists Morris Louis and Helen Frankenthaler.

Rodney Graham s lightboxes, in which the artist portrays himself as archetypes drawn from the realms of art and pop culture, are distinguished by their highly detailed sets and props, which unite and expand upon his practices in painting, photography, sculpture and film. Beyond the frame, Graham often takes his role one step further, assuming the artistic output of his character to create an invented practice within his own.

Gonzalo Lebrija s History of Suspended Time: Monument for the Impossible is based on a video captured by the Mexico-based artist of the moment just before the car broke through a lake s surface. Museum leadership hopes to have it installed on the southeast corner of Museum Drive and Museum Way by the end of January.
