Updated: 12:20 PM CST December 23, 2020 NEW ORLEANS A gunman was killed after trying to rob a New Orleans gas station East Tuesday night, police said. The gunman walked into the gas station, got a drink and walked to the register before going behind the front counter and opening fire at store clerks, police said. An employee fired back, hitting the gunman and killing him, a release from the New Orleans Police Department said. Juan Barnes with NOPD s Public Affairs Division said killing the gunman was a justifiable homicide, meaning it was in self-defense according to Louisiana law. The shooting happened in the 6500 block of Morrison Road in New Orleans, where the road meets the I-10 Service Road, a release from police said.

8-year-old, 6 others wounded in 5 separate shootings in New Orleans over 12 hours

Updated: 11:39 AM CST December 20, 2020 NEW ORLEANS One person was killed and seven people were injured in six separate shootings over a 12 hour period in New Orleans, a particularly bloody weekend that ended one lift and left six adults and an 8-year-old with gunshot wounds.  The first shooting was reported Saturday evening. While an exact time wasn t released by NOPD, they reported the shooting to media outlets just before 5:40 p.m. The shooting took place in the 1100 block of Piety Street in the St. Claude neighborhood. According to investigators, there were three victims: a man, a woman and an 8-year-old boy. 

Multiple-city chase ends with arrest in Coos Bay

A high-speed chase through multiple cities ended with an arrest in Coos Bay late Wednesday. Coos County sheriff s deputies arrested Steven White, 32, on multiple charges after pursuing his vehicle on Highway 42, U.S. Highway 101 and through downtown Coos Bay, according to a press release from the sheriff s office.  The pursuit began with a traffic stop for erratic driving near the junction of Highway 42 and Highway 101. Deputies pursued the vehicle after it accelerated away from the traffic stop eastbound toward Coquille. Near the intersection of Highway 42 and Green Acres Lane, the driver performed a U-turn and headed back in the direction of Coos Bay, reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour, the sheriff s office said.
