FREEHOLD - A 30-year-old Ocean Township man has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting in Freehold Borough on March 30, authorities said. Joseph Lyons was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, according to a news release from Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni. The shooting happened at 8:02 p.m. when police were called for a report of shots fired at the Continental Apartment Complex, according to the news release. Upon arrival, police found two men suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Both victims were taken to a local hospital and later released, police said.

MATAWAN - Authorities are asking for the public s help in finding the motorist who fled after striking and seriously injuring a 77-year-old woman on Freneau Avenue Tuesday evening. The woman, who was not identified, remains hospitalized in critical condition, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said in a news release. The hit-and-run crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. when police responded to a report of a body on the shoulder of Freneau Avenue in front of the Portuguese restaurant Mediterranean Chateau, according to the news release. Matawan police found the woman lying on the shoulder on the northbound side of the road. She was treated at the scene by Matawan First Aid and paramedics from the Monmouth Ocean Hospital Service Corp. and then taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, authorities said.
