KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 The Third Meeting of the Third Session of the 14th Parliament of Dewan Negara was adjourned today after sitting for seven days with nine bills passed.
Four of the bills passed today were the Sales Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020, Service Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020, Tourism Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020 and the Cooperatives (Amendment) Bill 2020.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 Service providers of accommodation bookings using the digital platform are required to register with the Malaysian Tourism Tax System (MyTTx) under the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the latest three months before July next year to ensure the implementation of the taxation system, the Dewan Negara was told today.

Four of the bills passed today were the Sales Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020, Service Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020, Tourism Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020 and the Cooperatives (Amendment) Bill 2020.
The Sales Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020 and Service Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020 were tabled by Deputy Finance Minister I Datuk Abd Rahim Bakri.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Tax (Amendment) Bill 2020 was tabled by Deputy Finance Minister II Mohd Shahar Abdullah while the Cooperatives (Amendment) Bill 2020 was by Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 28): The government is working to reduce tax leakages as one of the strategies to improve tax administration in the country, Dewan Negara was told today.
Deputy Finance Minister II Mohd Shahar Abdullah said improvements would be made through data management and data integration strategies with relevant agencies. Among other strategies are to reduce under-reporting and [under-]declaring, expanding the government’s revenue base and harnessing the potential of the informal sector, he said when winding up the debate on the Finance Bill 2020.
Issues related to tax collection were raised by Senator Idris Ahmad and Senator Mohd Apandi Mohamad during the debate session.
