Chris Polatch WINCHESTER has a new language school – and it is aimed at local residents. Faced with a 90 per cent drop in business due to Covid, Chris Polatch, decided that standing up was better than lying down. He is best-known locally for his English Naturally business for foreign students, and is launching The Language Academy, based in Mint Yard off The Square. It has been widely publicised that people have taken up language learning during the pandemic, mostly using apps or other online options, said Chris. Now things are getting back to normal, we want to offer good old face-to-face classes for groups. It’s more fun, a better learning experience, and with our amazing location students can adjourn to the many bars, cafés and restaurants nearby – we want to see those businesses flourish too.

I knew some of the history that led to the task force â that the district made and then walked back a decision to close Harvest Middle School in October of 2020. I was hopeful that the task force process would support a full and open discussion of a variety of possibilities. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be.
