At tomorrow’s regular 10 a.m. meeting of county supervisors in San Bernardino, one item is expected to serve up a big win for those in the Morongo Basin who are food insecure or need meal assistance. Reporter Mike Lipsitz tells us what is on the menu…
Supervisors are expected to adopt consent calendar item 20. That action will make available $331,400 to the Hi-Desert Memorial Health Care District to provide access to food to income-eligible, food insecure households through April 2022. The money will be provided from Community Development Block Grant Funds part of the federal CARES Act established in response to the Coronavirus Pandemic. The Health Care District will use the funds to set up and support a food distribution hub at the old Joshua Tree Elementary School.
The Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino will distribute surplus food to low-income residents of the Morongo Basin at three locations Monday. The distribution is a week early due to the Presidents’ Day holiday next week. Ernest Figueroa has the times and places…

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 59077 Yucca Trail in Yucca Valley, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.;
Belfield Hall, 58380 Reche Road in Landers, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.;
29 Palms Community Pantry, 6450 Stardune Avenue, 10 a.m. to noon;
and the Joshua Tree Community Center, 6171 Sunburst Avenue, 10 a.m. to noon.

A 49-year-old man was arrested in Yucca Valley Friday on an Imperial County warrant, for allegedly contacting a minor for sex more than three years ago. According to an Imperial County Sheriff’s lieutenant, a Sheriff’s investigator was posing as a minor on the Internet. On September 11, 2017, Jose Romero of Yucca Valley, who believed the investigator was a minor, made contact and communicated via social media for about two weeks before making arrangements to meet in Salton City for sex. On September 22, 2017, investigators met Romero at the pre-arranged location. Jose Romero was arrested on suspicion of contacting a minor for sex, arranging to meet a minor for sex, and attempting lewd acts with a child, booked into an Imperial County jail, and released. When Romero did not show up for a follow-up court appearance, a warrant was issued for his arrest. Romero was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Friday morning near Joshua Lane and Hardesty Drive in Yucca Valley, and booked into the Morong
