ALPENA Townships come in various sizes and have different numbers of employees to run them.
That can make the day-to-day jobs involved in running one township very different from the jobs needed to run another.
Three township trustees from around Northeast Michigan talked to The News about those and other issues:

Laura Hilla, treasurer, Rogers Township: “My job as township treasurer is to collect current-year summer and winter property taxes for Rogers Township in Presque Isle County. At the beginning of March, any unpaid taxes for the previous year are turned over to the county to collect and are considered delinquent.”

Alcona Historical Society received a $2,972 Community Impact Grant for the Sprucing Up Bailey School project.
ALPENA The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan recently awarded a new round of community grants covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties.
The CFNEM Board of Trustees recently approved 46 new grants totaling $106,515. Of that amount, $84,289 was awarded in Community Impact Grants, and $22,226 was awarded in grants from the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council.
New Community Impact Grants are:
¯ Alcona Community Schools $1,000 for the Alcona Wrestling program;
¯ Alcona Community Schools $3,000 for the Elementary School Outdoor Classroom;
¯ Alcona County Commission on Aging $1,500 for the Alcona County Commission on Aging Technology Loan Center;

ALPENA–Counties, townships, and cities are in line to get a financial boost, the likes of which they have never seen before.
In the coming weeks, local governments will begin to receive portions of the $65 billion allocated to local governments in Michigan from the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan that passed through Congress last week and was signed by President Joe Biden Thursday.
