The events leading to the deputy shooting started with a traffic stop of a vehicle near Torrid Avenue and North Carpenter Road in Modesto, the Stanislaus County Sheriff s Office said in a release. What deputies said they didn t know then was that the vehicle was occupied entirely by five teens.Sign up for our Newsletters The driver, a 17-year-old boy, did not comply and instead fled from deputies, prompting a chase that would go farther than seven miles throughout the city of Modesto and nearby county streets, the sheriff s office said. Deputies, along with officers from the Modesto Police Department, tried stopping the vehicle with a ram maneuver, but it did not stop the teens.
