Imelda May: How last-minute text led to Noel Gallagher singing on my track

Imelda May has explained how a last-minute text conversation led to her duetting with Noel Gallagher on her new track. Just One Kiss features the former Oasis star on vocals and Ronnie Wood on guitar, both close friends of the 46-year-old Irish songstress. May told how she considered asking Gallagher to sing on the track but decided against it, thinking he must be asked to guest on other people’s songs all the time. A week before her booked studio time, she still had not decided on a partner for the duet, until Gallagher offered during an impromptu text exchange.

Imelda May has a new song featuring Noel Gallagher and Ronnie Wood

Singer-songwriter Imelda May has roped in some famous friends for her new single Just One Kiss. Noel Gallagher appears on vocals and Ronnie Wood takes up guitar duties.  Even better, the iconic team came about from a text. Imelda was messaging Noel and he agreed to a duet. Imelda says he brings a “great vibe and kick-ass voice” to the new track. She also sings the praises of Rolling Stones star Ronnie. “Ronnie’s just joyous to be around,” says Imelda. “It’s infectious. He’s fast, really on-the-ball, and he knows intuitively when something is working.” Of the song, she says: “That moment you know it can go either way. The sharp notion if you succumb you might just lose control. The split-second decision you know might change everything, with just one kiss. Could you resist?”

We re still a couple of council estate kids who haven t achieved what we want to achieve

Music Business Worldwide January 25, 2021 It started, as so many of these stories do, on pint three, in the pub. Two decades ago, Mark Lewis and Martin Toher were growing tired of their day jobs as major record company A&Rs. Adding to the ever-present precariousness of their careers was the industry consolidation swirling around them: Lewis’s home of London Records had been recently acquired by Warner Music Group, while Toher’s employer, A&M, had been rolled up into Mercury Records. “A lot of drink was going down between the two of us at that time, accompanied by a lot of pub talk,” says Lewis today. “It was like: so-and-so’s going to buy so-and-so, we can see where everything’s headed, and we’re powerless. This is not what we want for ourselves. What about starting our own label?”

The Jaded Hearts Club share cover of Patti Smith s Gloria

The band’s version of the 1975 song – which itself was a reworking of a record by Van Morrison’s early group Them mixed with one of Smith’s poems – was recorded live at London’s 100 Club. Made up of frontmen Nic Cester (Jet) and Miles Kane (The Last Shadow Puppets), guitarists Graham Coxon (Blur), British guitarist Jamie Davis as well as Muse’s Matt Bellamy on bass and The Zutons’ Sean Payne on drums, The Jaded Hearts Club shared their cover of ‘Gloria’ on Twitter. Advertisement “ G-L-O-R-I-A (GLORIA)/ G-L-O-R-I-A (GLORIA)/ I’m gonna shout it all night (GLORIA)/ I’m gonna shout it everyday (GLORIA),” the song’s chorus rings out.
