Jets Saleh hires Ulbrich as DC, LaFleur as OC
Robert Saleh is taking a CEO-type approach to his new job as New York Jets head coach announcing Thursday that he hired Jeff Ulbrich to run the Jets defence. Mike LaFleur, who was the 49ers passing game co-ordinator the past three seasons, will be the Jets offensive co-ordinator.

NEW YORK Robert Saleh is taking a CEO-type approach to his new job as New York Jets head coach by overseeing the entire team and not just one area.
The former San Francisco 49ers defensive co-ordinator announced during his introductory news conference Thursday that he hired Jeff Ulbrich to run the Jets defence.

With a week full of rumors involving Deshaun Watson to the Jets, new rumors have now surfaced of Allen Robinson planning on signing with the team as well. These probably stem from a social media ‘like’ made by Robinson, which is the equivalent of a grain of salt. Mike LaFleur, who served on the same coaching staff as Jets head coach Robert Saleh in San Francisco, has been named the Green & White s offensive coordinator. In addition to LaFleur, the Jets announced nine other offensive staff assignments.
LaFleur spent the past three seasons as the 49ers passing-game coordinator. San Francisco had 13 players with at least one touchdown reception in 2019, which tied an NFL record. During that 19 campaign, TE George Kittle was named an Associated Press First-Team All-Pro and led the team with 85 catches and 1,053 yards and tied for first with 5 TDs. Saleh, a defensive-minded coach, is apparently focusing on building his offensive staff early in his Jets tenure. (He hasn’t even been formally introduced by the team yet.)
And those two additions are running backs coach Taylor Embree and and wide receivers coach Miles Austin, a New Jersey native, according to Fox Sports.
Austin played at Garfield High and then Monmouth, before spending 2006-15 as an NFL receiver. He played all but his final two seasons with the Cowboys. Austin made his coaching debut in 2019, as an offensive quality control coach with the 49ers. Saleh was San Francisco’s defensive coordinator before he took the Jets job, so there’s a connection.
