Penn State Offering Weekly Incentives for Students and Employees Who Get COVID-19 Vaccine

Following its plan to provide incentives for getting the COVID-19 vaccine rather than requiring it, Penn State announced on Tuesday that it will have weekly prize drawings for students and employees who provide proof that they got their shots. Beginning June 7 and continuing through Aug. 23, those who submit their vaccination status and complete an online form will be entered for the drawings each week for a $1,000 payment, $100 Barnes & Noble gift card (four winners each week) and a football signed by Penn State football coach James Franklin. All students and employees at all campuses who have already received the vaccine or who receive it in the future are eligible.

Centre County Adds 7 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 580 New Positives

It marks the eighth consecutive day the county has had fewer than 10 new cases. Pennsylvania also added fewer than 1,000 positives for the fifth straight day. The 580 new cases bring the statewide total to 1,203,443. DOH removed 80 negative test results from Centre County’s total, which is now 69,640. Across Pennsylvania, there were 5,381 additional negatives for a total of 4,610,343. Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 12 COVID-19 inpatients between the ages of 19 and 94, four more than on Tuesday. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, one COVID-19 patient in Centre County is in intensive care and on a ventilator. Statewide, Pennsylvania has 929 COVID-19 inpatients, a decrease of 60 since Tuesday, with 229 in intensive care [-19] and 143 on ventilators [+3].

Centre County Reports No New COVID-19 Cases for the First Time in Nearly 10 Months

Though overall testing was lower because of the Memorial Day weekend, Centre County and Pennsylvania saw notable lows in new COVID-19 cases over the last three days. Centre County reported no new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday for the first time since Aug. 10, 2020. The county added four cases combined on Sunday and Monday to bring its total to 16,857. On Monday, Pennsylvania reported 315 new positives statewide, the lowest daily increase since March 25, 2020. With 489 new cases on Sunday and 684 on Tuesday, the statewide total is now 1,202,863. The county had 121 additional negative test results over the three days to increase its total to 69,720. Across Pennsylvania, there were 10,234 new negatives for a total of 4,604,962.
